Hawks "Grid-Iron Bash" Postponed AP
A concert featuring Kelly Clarkson and
other Gridiron Bash activities to be held the night before the
University of Iowa spring football game next month won't go on as
scheduled.
Concerts and other activities that had been scheduled to be held
next month at 16 Division I football universities including the
University of Iowa have been postponed after the NCAA ruled the
events would be disruptive and player participation might violate
its rules.
New York-based MSL Sports and Entertainment had organized the
Gridiron Bash events for April 18, a Friday night before spring
football games at 13 universities. Three others had scheduled
events for other dates in April.
The activities would have included fan competition, a pep rally
with the football team and coach and a live concert featuring such
acts as Counting Crows, Maroon 5 and Alan Jackson.
MSL Sports and Entertainment released a statement dated Saturday
that said the NCAA has questioned whether player participation in
the events would violate its rules. That prompted a number of
universities to say their players would not be allowed to
participate.
The events may be rescheduled for the fall, however, some
universities posted notices on their Web sites that the event was
canceled.
Refunds for tickets were being issued through universities or the event Web site.
